FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WHAM UNVEILS LANDMARK 2025 INVESTMENT REPORT
A Business Case to Transform Women’s Health and Drive Economic Growth
GREENWICH, Conn. (Jan 14, 2025) — Women’s Health Access Matters (WHAM), a leading nonprofit organization, in collaboration with the KPMG Foundation and KPMG LLP, the U.S. audit, tax, and advisory firm, has released its groundbreaking report “The Business Case for Accelerating Women’s Health Investment,” at the 43rd Annual JPMorgan Healthcare Conference in San Francisco. The report highlights women’s health as a high-growth market poised to deliver transformative health outcomes and significant economic returns.
“Investing in the health of women is one of the most compelling business opportunities of our time,” said Carolee Lee, Founder and CEO of WHAM and TIME100 Global Health Leader. “Women comprise over half the global population and drive 80% of healthcare spending decisions, yet their health needs remain underfunded. This report presents a clear roadmap for prioritizing investment in women’s health—a sector with immediate ROI and exponential growth potential.”
The WHAM Report will focus on several potential areas of opportunity, profitability, and scalability:
Redefining Women’s Health
The WHAM Investment Report broadens the traditional view of women’s health, emphasizing its expansive scope to include conditions that:
- Exclusively affect women (e.g., menopause, ovarian cancer).
- Disproportionately affect women (e.g., autoimmune diseases, Alzheimer’s).
- Differently affect women (e.g., cardiovascular and lung diseases).
High-Growth Opportunities and Proven ROI
The report highlights the immense growth potential of the women’s health sector:
- $30 Billion Market by 2030: The opportunities for conditions disproportionately affecting women are rapidly expanding.
- 95% Untapped Market: With only 5% of specific conditions exclusive to women, 95% of the market represents an untapped frontier for breakthrough innovation and investment
- 300% Investment Growth: Despite recent growth, women’s health still receives only 2% of healthcare VC funding.
“This report highlights the vast potential of investing in women’s health, a sector that promises substantial economic returns and profound societal benefits,” said Ash Shehata, KPMG U.S. Sector Leader for Healthcare. “At KPMG, we are committed to supporting initiatives that improve the health and well-being of women, and we are proud to work alongside WHAM to accomplish our shared goal of creating a more equitable and accessible healthcare landscape.”
Investment Collaborative Launch
The new WHAM Investment Report coincides with the launch of WHAM’s Investment Collaborative. This initiative aims to double venture funding for women-founded companies, accelerating innovations in diagnostics, treatments, and prevention.
The release of The WHAM Report and The WHAM Investment Collaborative are designed to accelerate innovation and unlock the immense, untapped potential within the women’s health market—one of the most underfunded yet transformative sectors in healthcare.
3Not30 Initiative
Central to WHAM’s efforts is the 3Not30 Initiative, a focused three-year campaign to:
- Increase private and federal investment in women’s health
- Expand access to clinical trials
- Mine the data and establish WHAM Accountability Indexes
The full report will be presented with KPMG at the 43rd Annual JPMorgan Healthcare Conference, January 13-15, 2025, in San Francisco.
