WHAM – La Jolla Institute for Immunology Partnership and Report Launch

January 26, 2022

WHAM Founder Carolee Lee and La Jolla Institute of Immunology (LJI) President and CEO Erica Ollmann Saphire and board chair Gail Naughton, Founder of Histogen, Inc. announced a partnership to accelerate immune and autoimmune health research focused on women, including a new sex and gender research focus for LJI. Lori Frank, Ph.D. Senior Behavioral Scientist at RAND Corporation highlighted findings from The WHAM Report study on autoimmune rheumatoid arthritis, including that while more than 60% of patients are women, just 7% of research focuses on women, and that adding just $6 million for this research would return $10.5 billion to our economy through improving health, quality of life and productive years in the workforce.
